Introduction to Child Development

This course aims to provide a general overview of child development, highlight some of the current messages from research and relate to practice.

Multi-session course for

All Children's Services staff and Foster Carers who work face to face with children and young people.

Participants will learn how to

  • Demonstrate a general awareness of the psychological theories relating to child development
  • Make the links between theory and how children and young people achieve their developmental milestones
  • Discuss and identify the factors that influence the development process
  • Identify key transitions in children and young people’s lives and gain an awareness of skills and strategies available to support children and young people through transitions

Intended impact on practice

  • Delegates will be able to discuss the psychological theories which will inform their understanding of child development and relate these to there practice
  • They will be able to identify factors that may influence development and discuss how interventions can promote positive outcomes for children and young people
  • During the course there will be signposting to resources and further learning opportunities to support ongoing development
