Primary History Conference 2018

To acquaint history co-ordinators with key local and national developments and to explore history's role within the primary curriculum.

One day course for

Subject co-ordinators who want to develop their expertise.

Knowledge and understanding

  • Key developments locally and nationally.
  • Understanding of history's evolving place within the primary curriculum.
  • Establish awareness of network groups, approaches and resources.

Participants will learn how to

  • Raise standards of teaching in history.
  • Enrich their history curriculum especially by making high quality cross curricular links.
  • Explain how history promotes children's spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development and contributes to preparing children to live in modern British society.
  • Build capacity for ensuring good progress for all children in a world without levels.

  • Keynote presentation by nationally renowned figure in children's books.
  • Presentations by Hampshire leading history teachers summarising local and national developments.
  • Workshops to progress professional expertise in the history curriculum.

  • Ensure clear understanding of how history promotes children's SMSC development.

Our Guest speaker in 2018 is  Sharon Sheehan: filmmaker. 

Sharon is currently making a feature about the pioneering palaeontologist Mary Anning.  Mary was a fossil hunter who made numerous important contributions to science, arising from her lifelong exploration of the Jurassic Coast in Dorset. Many of her fossil finds are on display at the Natural History Museum, and they helped change the way scientists think about prehistoric species. Mary makes a great Local Study for KS1 or KS2, as well as a special KS1 study.
