HSCB - Managing Staff Who Have a Responsibility for Safeguarding Children

Training to support Leaders and Managers to fulfil their role and responsibilities in promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people. This is a Level 5 course on the HSCB training pathway.

One day course for

Operational managers from all agencies who work with children and young people, including school staff.

There is a selection process for this course, submitting a nomination is not a guarantee of a place.

Course pre-requisites:

Delegates must have previously completed the Virtual College eLearning modules listed below, and must bring certificates of completion to this training.  Instructions for how to access Virtual College eLearning can be found here.

  • Safeguarding and Leadership



Participants will learn how to:

  • Consider the differences between leadership and management
  • Recognise the importance of all our communications with stakeholders and ways in which we can make these more effective

  • Explain some of the lessons learnt from Serious Case Reviews both Nationally and Locally
  • Define the role of the LADO, recognising ways in which staff can keep themselves safe from allegations
  • Explain the importance of good record keeping by our staff and recognise the pitfalls they can fall into


Course attendance fees:

Hampshire Safeguarding Children Board (HSCB) offer free training to their partner agencies*.  In the case of non-attendance or cancellation within 48 hours of an event a fee of £120 will be incurred.  This fee will be waived if a substitute delegate is sent instead but you must let us know if this happens.  All cancellations or changes must be sent in writing to cs.nominations@hants.gov.uk

*HSCB Partner agencies = Hampshire County Council - Hampshire Constabulary - National Probation Service – Hampshire & IOW Community Rehabilitation Company – CAFCASS – NHS Hampshire CCG’s (not GP’s) – Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council – East Hampshire District Council – Eastleigh Borough Council – Fareham Borough Council – Gosport Borough Council – Hart District Council – Havant Borough Council – New Forest District Council – Rushmoor Borough Council – Test Valley Borough Council – Winchester City Council – Hampshire Fire & Rescue – Hampshire Armed Forces
