Talking and Reading to Develop Thinking in Year 6 and Year 7 English
This subject-based cluster group is informed by research into the potential of dialogic talk and reciprocal reading to motivate pupils to think and challenge themselves in group discussion whilst also supporting the lower attaining readers in reading comprehension.
Multi-session course for
Primary Teachers; Secondary Teachers of English
Kate Erricker - General Inspector/Adviser for English
The course is cross phase in order to develop a shared approach between teachers from Primary and Secondary settings and will have a chance to discuss and develop shared approaches to classroom practice that will support KS2/KS3 transition. This provides an opportunity for delegates to reflect on their own development and also learn from the good practice of others.
The group will meet 3 times across the Autumn and Spring terms to
develop good practice in the use of reading and talk strategies in English
teaching. Meetings will be hosted in local schools and held in the afternoons to minimise the impact on the
school day. Teachers from both KS2 and Secondary schools are encouraged to attend.
