Introduction to Self-Harm in Children and Young People

This 3 hour workshop aims to increase understanding and awareness of deliberate self-harm in children and young people, increase ability to identify the early signs of deliberate self-harm and increase awareness of information and support services in your local area

Part day course for

Practitioners from any agency (such as Social Workers, Family Support Workers, Home School Link Workers, Foster Carers, Youth Support Workers and GPs) who work with children (8 years plus) or young people who self-harm, or with their families who live within the HCC boundaries

Learning outcomes:

Participants will learn how to:

  • Define deliberate self-harm
  • Identify the prevalence of deliberate self-harm in children and young people
  • Describe the early signs of deliberate self-harm in children and young people
  • Explain the CAMHS referral criteria (what will be accepted, who can refer, how to refer)
  • Identify how to deal with immediate risk and develop safety plan for the young person
  • Identify local support services
  • Use the Specialist CAMHS Consultation Line
